PPE Face Mask Cover Instructions

The PPE Mask Covers are designed to fit like an N95, with the top elastic band going across the crown of the head. Please see illustration.

It has come to our attention that some of the mask covers may not be fitting properly. There are two reasons this may be happening. The first is a mistake on our part. The first batch of masks were made with a softer, more stretchy elastic, but the second batch of mask covers were made with a heavier, stiffer elastic. If you received a mask cover that is too small, with the stiffer elastic, please contact us as soon as possible. We are making elastic extensions and we want to send you a set.

At Home:

Hand wash method: Make up a solution of laundry detergent and cold water. Hand wash, rinse thoroughly, hand ring, and air dry.

Home machine wash method: Close Velcro closures; Put into a mesh laundry bag; Wash in cold water.

Note regarding household laundry detergents: Do Not Use detergents containing chlorine bleach or an oxygenated cleaner (Oxi-clean). We recommend using a hypo-allergenic detergent, or one that is free of dyes and perfumes. Remember, this will be on your face, so avoid strongly perfumed detergents.

At the Station:

Station extractor method: Close Velcro closures: Put into a mesh laundry bag: Wash with station clothes, Wildland gear, hoods, and/ or liners.

At Home:

Make up a 3% to 5% Lysol or Odo-Ban solution using cold water. Let the mask cover soak for 16 minutes in the solution, then soak for 5 minutes in clean water. Rinse thoroughly, hand ring, and air dry.

At the Station:

We recommend using the same decontamination cleanser that you use on your Turn Outs, like Shield Solutions®. Put mask cover into a mesh laundry bag and wash it in your extractor with the rest of the gear needing decontamination.

Note regarding air drying: Hang dry the mask cover in a ventilated area NOT in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight will darken tan fabric and lighten black fabric. Do Not Use Heat to Dry.
